My friends have been looking for the perfect couple’s tattoo idea only to find that there aren’t many curated resources out there.
That led me to this post idea, where I thought I’d share some of the best king and queen designs. Whether you’re celebrating an anniversary or just because, these classic looks are sure to be a hit.
1. Unique Design
Source: @baby_blues_tattoos
I am seriously in love with this idea! You don’t always have to be perfectly identical to have a matching set. This combo is such a great example of that whole “opposites attract” vibe.
I mean, isn’t a spade just an inverted heart with a little handle, right? I just think these are absolutely gorgeous. I’m obsessed with every single detail!
2. Lion and Lioness Tattoos
Source: @godofthe956
Okay, let’s talk about art. How realistic do these animals look? They are just incredible. A major shoutout to the tattoo artist is in order, because just look at those eyes!
Lions are all about royalty and strength, so getting a lion and lioness is basically saying you two are the leaders of the pack. Or pride, in this situation. The level of detail in these tattoos leaves me totally speechless.
3. Skulls with Crowns
Source: @lindybtattoo
How incredible are these realistic skulls, especially with the heart shaped eyes? You just have to agree, they look so amazing.
Both of the crowns are flawless, with so much intricate detail and shading in all the right spots. This kind of design symbolizes being with your person even after death.
So romantic, right? That is commitment on a whole other level. I just love that dedication.
4. Finger Tattoos
Source: @zhara_nilsson
Getting tattoos on your fingers is such a romantic way to show your dedication. I feel like they represent rings in a way. You could even get your ring finger tattooed to take your devotion to the next level.
We’re talking marriage vibes. Plus, a small tattoo like this is super easy to cover up if your job isn’t a fan. They’re also pretty affordable, especially when you compare them to larger pieces.
5. King and Queen of Hearts Tattoos
Source: @sebastian_tattoo
Using red ink in a tattoo is so eye catching. It’s just so bright and bold. I love it! The symbolism of the king and queen of hearts from a deck of cards is such a sweet choice for a tattoo set.
It’s simple, adorable, and totally effective. You don’t need a huge, over the top design to show your commitment. Sometimes the best things are uncomplicated.
6. Outlined Hearts
Source: @tanya_warbs
Can you tell I’m a fan of finger tattoos? I mean, I really am. Their take on kings and queens is just perfect.
You have to admit it. The outlined hearts give it another layer, and I’m so into this technique. Aren’t you?
Having matching ink in the exact same spot is such a great touch. Whenever you see your tattoo, you’ll know your partner has the same one in the very same place. I bet that’s a wonderful feeling.
7. One Life, One Love
Source: @danarmorse42411
What a romantic quote. Feeling so much love for someone that you believe they’re the only one for you. Forever. Well, until death, really. The font they picked looks amazing paired with the crowns.
And the crowns themselves are so cool. The shading and extra detailing are pretty incredible. If you’re going to get something permanently on your skin that lasts forever, you might as well make it look good.
8. Chess Pieces
Source: @kato.time
Here are some more chess pieces to get you totally inspired. These look like they came straight out of an art book sketch. They are brilliant.
The shading on both pieces is so well done. As far as couple tattoos go, these are a personal favorite. The chess pieces are pretty big, taking up a lot of space on their arms.
Does that feel like too much of a commitment? No worries, you could always get these in a smaller size. Much smaller if that’s what you prefer.
9. Arm Tattoos
Wow. Just look at the vibrant red on the guy’s tattoo. I seriously want to reach out and touch it because it seems so realistic.
These king and queen designs are as artistic as they get. And they absolutely scream royalty, that’s for sure. You can tell just from the crown shapes that they’re a matching pair.
While I do love a simple black tattoo, you could always bring in some color.
10. Calligraphy King and Queen
Source: @yungbuckles
The script used for the ‘king’ and ‘queen’ words in these tattoos is truly amazing and so unique. I especially love the dot over the ‘i’ on the man’s tattoo.
What a fantastic design idea. The crowns have such a cool design, too. Each section of the crowns is separate, which is a very artsy choice. The plain black ink really makes the whole piece pop on both of them.
11. Big, Arm Tattoos
Source: @anisiasrisia
Want to go a little bigger? I’ve always thought the bigger the tattoo, the bigger the commitment, right? The amazing thing about larger tattoos is that they can have way more detail.
Intricate designs are just easier to create when there’s a bigger canvas to work with. Crowns are such a lovely way to symbolize your love for your partner.
And I think it’s much nicer than having the actual word ‘king’ or ‘queen’ tattooed.
12. Black and Red Finger Tattoos
Source: @ninelivestattoos
These tattoos look like they were pulled right from a deck of cards. They are so cool. The font is smooth and very elegant. It honestly looks like they just took a Sharpie and decorated their fingers.
I bet it must have felt so weird getting these done, since it’s such a unique spot. The color choices are classic and have a traditional inspiration. If you’re a fan of simplicity, this lovely design is for you.
13. Simple King and Queen of Hearts
Source: @raidermurkem_hollywood
Tattoos don’t have to be super complex or intricate. They can be simple, too. That doesn’t make them any less meaningful. A simple ‘Q’ and ‘K’ with a couple of hearts is a great choice.
As long as you and your partner know the meaning behind them, that’s what truly matters. Black, red, or even white. There are just so many colors to pick from when choosing the right one for your tattoo.
14. His Queen, Her King
Source: @emporiumlakeland
The calligraphy for the “His Queen, Her King” tattoos is so unique. It’s got a bit of a masculine feel, unlike the usual scripts you’ve seen on this list.
You can choose any font you want. Always remember that. The matching crowns are done so amazingly well.
The white, green, and purple jewels are identical on both crowns, even in the same order. I love how the bottoms of the crowns fade away, almost like they were smudged with an eraser.
15. Cute Idea
Source: @theyoungmummy
The detailed design on both of these tattoos is absolutely beautiful. Crowns symbolize royalty. So with a crown tattoo, you’re telling your partner they mean more to you than anyone else.
Forget past relationships, because this is what matters now. You’ll never want anyone but this person.
It’s a huge commitment, but if you truly mean it, it’s totally worth it. And I just love that the crowns match. It doesn’t get any better than that.
16. Life, Love, Forever
Source: @artistron
Yes, I know we’ve already had a “one life, one love” tattoo pairing, but I just had to include this one too. The floral detailing on the queen’s crown is so lovely.
It almost looks like plants are growing from the base of the crown, which creates a really nice effect. The matching fonts help seal the deal on the commitment between these two people.
There is so much detail in both tattoos that I’m just in awe.
17. Another Side Palm Design
Source: @meghanashleigh11
Side palm tattoo designs have become so popular lately. These tattoos are both incredible. The scripts look almost 3D. The shading and light specks were used to create such an amazing font.
The crowns in both tattoos are so cool, especially the way they’ve been positioned. They both float so effortlessly above the capital ‘K’ and ‘Q’. It’s such a great concept.
And like I’ve said before, the size can always be adjusted.
18. Small, White Ink King and Queen Tattoos
Source: @aboutsanglee
White ink tattoos are pretty new to the tattoo world. They’re a great option if you don’t want to commit to the usual black ink, which is way more noticeable on the skin.
It makes them both striking and subtle. Depending on your skin tone, they can even look a bit like a scar, but in a good way, of course.
I have to say, these king and queen tattoos look amazing. The perfect way to show your commitment to the one you love.
19. Cute Wrist Tattoos
Source: @esprees_art
It doesn’t get more matching than these two tattoos. Not only are the fonts the same, but the crowns are exactly identical. They are such cute tattoos, though.
Actually, wait a minute. The fonts aren’t the same. They are pretty similar, though. At a quick glance, they look identical.
The crowns are definitely the same, and that is just so sweet. It’s almost like saying they are both equals in every way.
20. You’re My King, I’m Your Queen
Source: @sd_ink_1977
Being called someone’s king or queen has to be such a wonderful feeling. Getting it tattooed is some serious dedication. Wedding rings can come off, but tattoos are forever.
Well, they can be removed, but it’s a huge hassle. Not to mention, the pain is way worse than getting the tattoo in the first place. Having the actual words ‘king’ or ‘queen’ and seeing them every day must be such a rush.
21. Cool Wrist Tattoos
Source: @yorkshirepud15
The shading and amount of detail on both of these tattoos is just remarkable. With tattoos, you really pay for quality.
It truly shows how devoted you are to someone if you pick such a detailed design over a simple one. Simple doesn’t necessarily mean you don’t love that person with your whole heart.
It’s all about perception. It’s about how your loved one sees your dedication to them and your future together.
22. Large Wrist Crowns
Source: @straight_clowning_tattoo
These crowns are definitely large, that’s for sure. The bigger the better, right? Well, if you like that kind of thing.
You can always opt for something smaller. Just not after you’ve already gotten the big tattoo. That’s way too much of a hassle.
The U2 lyrics below are such a lovely touch. I wonder if this couple chose these meaningful words because of the song ‘One’. Or it could have been for a completely different reason.
23. Cartoon Crowns
Source: @yoji_canniffe
What a great pair of cartoon crowns. Why go for realistic when you can have surreal instead? These two crowns match mainly because of their bases.
The rest is different, but they still have a similarity throughout. Black and white for the win. Since the image is in black and white, I can’t really tell if the tattoos have color in them.
They would look amazing either way, though.
24. Colourful Wrist Tattoos
Source: @luckyinlovetattoo
Back in the day, you could only get tattoos in black ink. Now, you can pick any color you want. Literally any color.
These tattoos are a perfect example of how good colorful tattoos can look. The cartoonish effect of the crowns gives them a playful feel.
There’s also some really nice shading. The font chosen for the words ‘king’ and ‘queen’ is so elegant and almost looks handwritten. It’s such a personal touch.
25. Matching Watercolor Tattoos
Source: @iristattooart
This is a perfect example of the kinds of colors you could get tattooed. And not just one color, either. You have options. Literally tons of them.
The watercolor theme this couple chose is beautiful and so artistic. I love how quirky the crowns are, too.
They literally look like they were drawn with a pen, as if the designs were taken from a doodle in a school notebook one day.
26. Red Ink Finger Tattoos
Source: tumblr.com
Ooh, some more finger tattoos. I’m a big fan of these. There are so many color options for tattoos. You really are spoiled for choice.
The red design of these tattoos is meant to symbolize the king and queen of hearts from a deck of cards. Such a lovely detail.
Having it on the side of your finger is a really good idea. It’s easily hideable for work. And it’s actually a pretty unique place to get a tattoo.
27. Red King and Queen of Hearts Tattoos
Source: @foxtrotmraz
The scripts for these tattoos are just so elegant. Simple and sophisticated. The tattoo artist must have had such a steady hand to make sure the lines of the ‘K’ were so perfectly straight. It’s impressive.
The king and queen of hearts are definitely the most popular cards in the deck, that’s for sure.
Having these tattoos done entirely in red is a fantastic touch. You could always mix it up and choose a different color for either the hearts or the letters.
28. Matching Crowns
Source: @taylor.richter
These crowns are so similar. They definitely match. The bauble like ends on both crowns are exactly the same.
I like how they’ve made the rest slightly different, just to make it easier to tell the king’s crown from the queen’s.
With the amazing shading and light specks added to both tattoos, color isn’t needed. There’s always the option to add color later on, too. Smart thinking for the future, really.
29. Small & Cute
Source: @phillips_jemma
Size isn’t everything. These small tattoos are absolutely wonderful. They look like the kind of doodles you’d make in your notebook during class.
I like that the woman’s is mostly white and the man’s is mostly black. It’s such a great contrast. Kind of like yin and yang. Opposites attract and all that.
The dark king and the light queen together forever. It has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it? It’s such a light and playful tattoo, so it’s a great choice if that’s the side of you and your partner you want to show.
30. Simple Wrist Tattoos
Sweet and simple. These tattoos plainly illustrate that the couple is together, and that’s it. No frills or fuss. Just a straightforward commitment. So elegant.
Choosing your wrist for a tattoo means you’ll see it all the time. A constant reminder of your love.
You can even cover it with a watch or a bracelet and no one will ever know it’s there. Tattoos can be whatever you want them to be.
31. Black and Red Thumb Tattoos
Source: @esprees_art
If you want a small tattoo but still want it to have a few different elements, this one is for you. These tattoos are just wonderful.
You can choose one color for the entire piece, like what they’ve done below. Or, you could pick different colors for each part, like the crown, the letter, and the spade or heart.
I love the simplicity of this design. It’s small but holds so much meaning.
32. Finger Tattoos
The simplicity of the crowns in these tattoos is really so lovely. They’re more symbolic representations than actual crowns. As for the script, it’s so cool and looks handwritten.
Yes, I know technically it was. But what I mean is that it looks less like a font and more like a personal statement.
Color isn’t everything. Sometimes, simplicity wins over everything else. I really like how the dedication is spread across two fingers.
33. Tiny Hand Tattoos
Source: @esprees_art
Small and detailed. These intricate crown designs are so delicate and beautiful. With crowns, you can have whatever you like.
There are so many types to choose from. Look at these two below. They aren’t the same, but they definitely match.
And the woman’s one looks more feminine than the man’s masculine looking one. If he is your king, and you are his queen, these matching tattoos are definitely for you!
34. King & Queen Tattoos + Initials
Source: @solovyovatattooer
The calligraphy of the letters is just beautiful. It’s such a lovely way to show the world how much that person means to you without having their full name written across your skin.
I approve, don’t you? Remember, tattoos never fade, just like true love.
35. Matching Chess Tattoos
Source: @lepapatattoo
Check mate. These matching pieces from a chess set are a brilliant idea. The intricate shading is totally on point.
And just look at how detailed it looks overall. Some really impressive work. Some tattoos just don’t need color.
They look amazing just the way they are, and these definitely fall into that category. Words aren’t needed when you have something as symbolic as these chess pieces. They speak for themselves.
36. Chess Tattoos
Source: @dooleytattooer
Check out these ones. Chess pieces are such a creative way of representing a king and queen. They also look so artistic. There’s even shading and shadows, too.
Great job to whoever did these. You should be proud. What’s nice about chess pieces is that some people won’t realize the meaning behind the tattoo.
They won’t instantly assume you’re in love with someone. You can either share your love or keep it to yourself.
37. Badass Skull Tattoos
Source: @misstomuch
These are so awesome. The skulls are definitely badass, and I have to admit, they look pretty scary too. Even the crowns have a dark and scary vibe.
The realistic skulls take these to a whole other level. It sort of demonstrates you’ll be with your loved one not only until you die, but after that as well. Forever.
It’s romance to the extreme. It doesn’t get more loving than that.
38. Crowns + Quotes
Source: @ratpack_ink_tattoo
Quote tattoos are great. Finding that perfect quote that you feel sums up your life is just the best feeling. You’ll never have something more meaningful tattooed on your body.
Well, that’s my opinion, anyway. “One life, one love” is a really romantic quote.
It’s not too mushy, so you women out there won’t have to worry about your partner not wanting to get it tattooed. It perfectly sums up your dedication to each other.
39. Amazing Hand Tattoos
Source: @queen_kahleesi_
Hand tattoos are a big commitment. Not only will you see them every day, but everyone else will too. The script used for the writing on both of these tattoos is so elegant and quirky.
The positioning of the crowns is absolutely perfect. It’s almost as if it’s slanted on the king’s head and flat on top of the queen’s. Such a great effect. These tattoos are a big statement, and I’m a huge fan.
40. King and Queen Skull Tattoos
Source: @bodymoreinked
These are so cool. Why have simple tattoos when you can let your creative side take over?
The models could have just gotten the ‘K’ and ‘Q’ with a couple of hearts, but they decided that wasn’t enough.
Skulls and crowns could symbolize being together forever, until they die. It’s actually quite romantic if you think about it. Tattoos are an art form, so let your imagination run wild.
41. Kindness + Strength
Source: @hairbysusiepham
The drawn on effect of both crowns is just so awesome. It adds such a personal touch to the entire piece of ink. These matching tattoos are simply divine. Don’t you agree?
42. Branded King & Queen
Source: @emotattoos
Now, these tattoos definitely look like brands. The red one especially. Just look at that red, it’s so cool.
When you’re choosing the right king and queen tattoos, you don’t have to match completely. Keep that in mind.
Just like this couple. The font matches and they both have hearts, but the colors are totally different. What looks good on one person might not look good on another.
43. Matching Ankle Tattoos
Source: @blackshiptattooshop
These are really so sweet. You have to agree it’s a unique location for a tattoo, but I’m definitely into it. Aren’t you?
The solid black of these tattoos makes them look more like brands than actual tattoos. Like they’ve branded each other as their king and queen.
It seems way more permanent and personal than a simple bow, doesn’t it? Hearts universally symbolize love, so of course you should choose them.
44. Doodle Wrist Crowns
Source: @ohdeertattoo
Love to doodle? Why not design your own tattoo and your loved one’s too? It doesn’t have to be a big piece.
You could go for something small like the ones below. Small and meaningful. Keep it plain black, or bring in a little bit of color.
The man’s crown looks more like a pattern than a crown. It’s awesome. A double meaning if you think about it. The best kind of tattoo.
45. King & Queen Calligraphy
Source: @fabuloustattooworkshop
The calligraphy on both of these tattoos is so cool. Really quite gorgeous. Simple black tattoos are a classic and so traditional.
The crowns themselves look like stamps. Kind of like the one the Queen of England would have used to stamp her mail back in the day.
Everyone loves a throwback, right? Well, I do anyway. Together, the writing and crowns look really pretty overall. The position on the skin is top notch, too.
46. Wrist Crowns
Source: @makeupartist.manisha
These wrist crowns are so pretty and intricate. Look at how much attention to detail the tattoo artist has given to each area of the tattoos.
The jewels on both crowns are just so beautifully drawn. There’s a very artistic feel to both of these tattoos.
They’ve even included shadow detailing and light specks. No color at all is needed with either of these masterpieces. I’m in awe.
47. Little Thumb Tattoos
Source: @littletattooideas
I’ve given you finger tattoos, so here are some for your thumbs. These definitely deserve a thumbs up. See what I did there?
These tattoos have a lovely intricate pattern, and they are entirely in black, which is a really nice touch.
The extra detail on each one is flawless. I’m actually quite jealous. Aren’t you? If black isn’t your color, you could always choose a different one. Or two, if you’re feeling brave.
48. Shaded Crowns
Source: @eachdaywithjay
These cool crowns have some incredible shading. Who needs color when you can get tattoos that look this awesome, right? There’s even some white in there.
It looks like these were painted, not tattooed, onto the couple’s skin. It must have taken ages to get the details added into both tattoos.
The tattoo artist did such an amazing job, though. Just look at how intricate each circle on the female’s tattoo is. There’s shading on every single ball. Brilliant!
49. Colourful Tattoos
Source: @clauratattoo
If there’s one flower that truly represents love, it’s the rose. Red roses in particular. These roses are gorgeous, though. The contrasting colors on them are amazing.
The cartoon king and queen are pretty epic, too. I am jealous of the artistic mind behind both of these great tattoos.
The king and queen of hearts are iconic, and this is such a lovely version of them. A nice tattoo to have forever.
50. Small but Meaningful Wrist Tattoos
Source: @tattoo_lbert
Meaningful tattoos are just the best. The script used for both of these tattoos is so cool. I love the white spacing. You can really tell that these two are a pair.
The king and queen of hearts for sure. The hearts below the ‘K’ and ‘Q’ are adorable and such a sweet addition.
These tattoos are a good idea because you can always add to them later on. You could add color to the white space of the ‘Q’ and ‘K’ or add more detail to the existing design. It’s entirely up to you.
51. Side Palm Tattoos
Source: @lepapatattoo
Ooh, side palm tattoos. Nice. The positioning of the crowns in both of these tattoos is really cool.
They are both slanted slightly, so they look as though they are resting on the words on imaginary heads. Being someone’s king or queen is a wonderful feeling.
So advertising that on your body is a great honor to them. You should feel proud, knowing you are valued so highly by someone.
